A miraculous recovery is underway. Nicole was release home three days ago and is regaining control of her body, sitting up bright eyed, using Both hands, feeding herself and being conversational and singing to the music played for her. She is very very weak still, but a physical therapist began work with her and will continue for three times per week until she is independent again. She is a fighter and will overcome.
Tomorrow I will introduce her to the Facebook thread of her journey, as an exercise in concentration she will read it rather than I. She will be amazed in the love that each of you has shown to us in this time of trouble. Thank…
Astounding developments! My daughter and I have been at the hospital for the last few days engaging Nicole with speech, emotional and physical therapy. Unable to access WiFi at the hospital, we have been shut down....centering on her care. Remarkably she has become conversational, has begun to move her left side (a hint from one of the many Facebook comments suggested we always have her with hands and legs together to feed the brain neurons to work together as partners)and low and behold-IT WORKED! Her left side is beginning to work.
Now totally separated from any machine and mustering the strength to prove to the doctors that she is functional enough, they have decided to release her to…
Progress, good progress. The two week coma has lifted, eyes open today attempting to speak. She is recognizing Sara, my youngest daughter, (who lives in Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish-great for clearer communications with doctors, et.al), and myself. We have surrounded her with familiar objects from our home, pillows, blankets and lavender flowers (her favorite color) . She is now aware of her condition and the challenges ahead. She is trying to speak, still very little responses on her left side, but we can see the strength in her eyes. She knows she has to fight for her mind.
She had her first oral nourishment, sipping soup, so she is able to swallow. The feeding tube and catheter will…
An update on Nicole’s condition Sunday Feb 9th Two weeks since the fall.
Pray for Grace. Nicole struggles to awaken to the sound of my voice, sometimes bold saying her name and that she will be OK, other times singing to her the songs that we are composing. I can see her eyes move behind closed lids. Each day I persist, squeezing her hand, massaging her feet, pinching her toes. She will stretch her right leg lightly squeezing my hand or maybe it’s just my imagination. I would love to see her beautiful eyes.
Her caregivers speak of her gaining consciousness, opening her eyes, bewildered, saying a word-thank God-but the doctor says her left side is not yet…
06 February - Blessings to our Nicole. She has been taken off of life support and, while not yet conscious, the coma medicines are being incrementally reduced. She grimaced in her sleep, not comfortable with the food tube down her throat. First sign of body awareness that I have seen. The nurses said that she opened her eyes briefly.Day by day now. She is awakening.Again, I want thank each of you for the real concern and love that we have received. Love is reciprocal. As is so aptly spoken, THE LOVE YOU TAKE IS EQUAL TO THE LOVE YOU MAKEThank you, Thank you, Thank you.
